CTET child development and pedagogy syllabus
Child Development and Pedagogy is the only section every Paper 2 candidate sits regardless of subject choice. Thirty questions, 30 marks, and a published internal split of 15, 5 and 10 marks across its three blocks.
That internal split is unusual. Most CTET sections publish only a total, so the 15 to 5 to 10 breakdown here is a genuine guide to where revision time belongs. The CTET Paper 2 syllabus hub page covers the other sections.

How to spend the time
Weight by the published split. Child Development is half the section at 15 marks, so Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky, the principles of development and the assessment distinction deserve the most time.
Learn the theorists comparatively rather than separately. Questions frequently give a classroom scenario and ask whose account explains it, which is a comparison rather than a recall task.
The distinction between assessment for learning and assessment of learning recurs across cycles and is worth being able to state in a sentence.
Inclusive Education is only 5 marks but it is a short, closed topic with three named areas, so it is the cheapest block to cover completely. Browse the available CTET Paper 2 practice papers.
Common mistakes
- Spreading time evenly across the three blocks when the marks run 15, 5 and 10
- Learning the theorists in isolation rather than being able to compare them
- Treating errors as mistakes to be corrected, when the syllabus frames them as meaningful steps in learning
- Skipping the gender and diversity topics, which are named explicitly
- Confusing assessment for learning with assessment of learning
- Leaving questions blank in a section with no negative marking
