Why planning attempts matters

For exams like UPSC, each attempt is a year of preparation. Knowing how many you have left helps you decide when to sit, whether to prepare alongside a job, and when to have a backup plan.

FAQs

Does registering for UPSC count as an attempt?

No. Only appearing in at least one Prelims paper counts.

If I miss a JEE Main session, do I lose an attempt?

JEE Main eligibility is counted in years, not sessions. Missing one session does not add an extra year. This calculator reports remaining years and remaining sessions (two per year).

Do attempts reset if my category changes?

Attempts already used stay counted. Your remaining attempts and age limit follow the category you hold when you apply, subject to valid certificates.
