How to use the converter

  1. Enter your CGPA.
  2. Select CBSE / most universities (× 9.5), VTU, Mumbai University, Anna University, or a 4-point scale. If yours is not listed, use the formula printed on your marksheet rather than guessing.
  3. Copy the percentage into your application.

The CBSE formula

CBSE recommends multiplying CGPA by 9.5:

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

For example, a CGPA of 8.2 converts to 77.9%.

University formulas

Universities set their own conversion, and they differ:

  • VTU (Karnataka): Percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) × 10. A CGPA of 8.2 becomes 74.5%.
  • Anna University: Percentage = CGPA × 10. A CGPA of 8.2 becomes 82%.
  • Mumbai University: Percentage = 7.1 × CGPA + 11.
  • 4-point scale: Percentage = (CGPA ÷ 4) × 100. Use this only when your institution marks on 4 points.
  • Other universities: check your grade card or the university's ordinance. Many print the conversion formula on the back of the marksheet.

Which formula should I use on a form?

Use your own university's official formula. If a recruiter or exam body specifies a method in its notification, that method overrides everything else. If you use a different formula, keep your university's conversion certificate ready for document verification.

FAQs

Is 9.5 used for all universities?

No. 9.5 is the CBSE method. Universities use their own formulas.

What if my CGPA is on a 4-point scale?

Choose the 4-point option in this converter. A simple "× 25" is the same arithmetic; still confirm it is what your institution prints.

Can I get an official conversion certificate?

Most universities issue one on request from the examinations office. It is the safest proof for job and exam applications.
