How to use the calculator
- Pick the post from the list (SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS, RRB NTPC, IBPS / SBI PO or Clerk). Each post maps to a 7th Pay Commission level or a bank scale.
- Choose the city class of your posting: X (metro), Y or Z.
- Enter the latest declared DA percentage (the field defaults to a recent central rate).
- Read basic, DA, HRA, transport allowance, gross, NPS and estimated in-hand pay.
How government salary is built
- Basic pay: fixed by your pay level. The entry basic is the first cell of that level in the pay matrix.
- Dearness Allowance (DA): a percentage of basic pay, revised by the government twice a year.
- House Rent Allowance (HRA): 30% of basic in X cities, 20% in Y cities and 10% in Z cities, at current DA levels. Bank scales use a smaller HRA factor. Not paid if you live in government housing.
- Transport Allowance (TA): a fixed monthly amount by pay level and city, plus DA on it. Bank posts in this calculator do not add TA.
- Deductions: this estimate subtracts 10% of basic plus DA towards NPS. Actual pay also loses health-scheme, insurance and income-tax deductions.
Entry basic pay by level

| Level 1 | 18,000 | SSC MTS, RRB Group D |
| Level 2 | 19,900 | SSC CHSL LDC / JSA |
| Level 4 | 25,500 | SSC CGL Tax Assistant |

Posts and levels are examples; each notification states the level for its posts. Bank PO and Clerk in this tool use bank pay scales rather than the 7th CPC matrix.
FAQs
Why is my in-hand salary lower than the gross salary?
Pension contribution, health scheme, insurance and income tax are deducted every month. This calculator shows NPS only.
How often does salary go up?
DA is revised twice a year, and you get an annual increment of about 3% of basic pay. Promotions move you to a higher level.
Will the 8th Pay Commission change these numbers?
Yes, once its recommendations are implemented. Update the DA field when new rates are notified.
