How to use the predictor
- Count your score in each section from the response sheet and answer key. Correct answers earn +3. Wrong MCQ answers cost 1 mark; wrong TITA (type-in) answers cost nothing.
- Enter the three section scores (VARC out of 72, DILR out of 66, QA out of 66). The tool adds them for your overall score out of 204.
- Read your estimated overall and sectional percentiles.
How CAT percentiles work
CAT runs in three slots, and no two slots are equally hard. IIMs first convert raw scores into scaled scores so that slots can be compared, then rank every candidate on the scaled score. Your percentile is the share of candidates whose scaled score is at or below yours.
The same raw score can map to a slightly different percentile depending on your slot, so treat the figure as an estimate rather than a slot-specific prediction.
Sectional percentiles matter too
Most IIMs and many other B-schools set a minimum percentile in each section as well as overall. A 99 overall percentile with a weak DILR score can still miss a shortlist. Check each section result, not only the total.
Where the marks usually come from
In recent years, DILR has had the widest spread of scores, so small gains there move percentiles the most. VARC rewards accuracy on reading comprehension. QA rewards choosing which questions to leave.
FAQs
What is a good CAT percentile?
It depends on your target schools. Older IIMs usually shortlist above the high 90s, while many good B-schools consider candidates in the 85 to 95 range. Category and academic profile also change the cut-off.
Is CAT percentile the same as CAT score?
No. Your score is marks; your percentile is your position among all candidates. The official scorecard shows both.
Why does my predicted percentile differ from other predictors?
Each predictor uses different past data and assumptions about slot difficulty. Treat any single number as an estimate.
Can I predict my percentile from a mock test score?
Roughly, if the mock is at exam difficulty. Mocks vary, so use the trend across several papers rather than one result.
