How to use the calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth as it appears on your Class 10 certificate. Exam bodies use that date.
  2. Choose the exam: SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, UPSC CSE, IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, RRB NTPC (graduate), NDA or CDS (IMA).
  3. Choose your category (General / EWS, OBC, SC / ST, or PwBD combined with those groups). NDA and CDS do not apply category relaxation in this tool.
  4. Set the cut-off date from the official notification (the field is labelled "Age counted on").

Why the cut-off date matters

Age is counted on a fixed date in the notification, not on the day you apply or the exam day. Being one day over the limit on that date makes you ineligible, so always check the exact date.

Common age relaxation for central government exams

These are the usual relaxations above the upper age limit for exams such as SSC and UPSC. Individual notifications can differ, so confirm in the one you are applying for.

CategoryYears added to upper age limit
OBC (non-creamy layer)3
SC / ST5
PwBD (General / EWS)10
PwBD (OBC)13
PwBD (SC / ST)15

EWS candidates do not get age relaxation in most central exams. Ex-servicemen, Jammu and Kashmir domiciles for certain periods, and government employees may get extra relaxation under separate rules; those statuses are not fields in this calculator. State exams set their own relaxation, which can be more generous.

FAQs

How do I know if I am exactly at the limit?

Most notifications settle this by giving a date-of-birth range, such as "born not earlier than X and not later than Y". If your date of birth falls inside that range, you are eligible. The calculator checks your age against the exam's minimum and relaxed maximum.

Can relaxations be combined?

Some can (for example PwBD with a caste category, as the table shows). Others cannot. The notification lists which combinations apply.

Which date of birth is accepted?

The one recorded in your Class 10 or matriculation certificate. Later changes are rarely accepted.
